When we heard that Nike Golf was going to be releasing another cover up, we were excited to see what a combination of what they call a sweater and performance jacket combo and it was just perfect for the unpredictable temperatures of late February and into March on the East Coast.
The half-zip Nike Innovation Woven Men’s Golf Cover-Up is made with rib sleeves and seam-taping in back for warmth, durability and streamlined style. With nylon and spandex fabrics, this jacket helps protect against the elements while maintaining superb range of movement.
What is most appealing about this half-zip is its snug fit like a sweater, but moveable enough not to compromise your swing. Some golf sweaters can be cumbersome and really don’t breathe enough to keep you from overheating this time of the morning. We simply don’t like premium prices for an article of clothing that you are going to shed in the first three of four holes, this solves the gap for all golfers.
“Golfers love wearing sweaters on the course. They’re soft and warm, and easy to move in, unlike a lot of jackets. With the Innovation Woven Cover-up, there’s no need to choose one over the other or add layers. It’s the best of both worlds,” said Merritt Richardson, VP of Global Golf Apparel for Nike Golf.
One thing you have to take in consideration before you purchase this half-zip, is, like most sweaters, you need to take care of the sleeves during wash and be careful when tossing it around or in your bag as they will easily snag. We put our cover-up through the wash 6 times and line-dried it, and each time it was just as good as new. No snags or tears and a fresh new look each time.
“We’ve done a lot of research around the thermal properties of 3D knit and increased articulation for a better fit. The knit is fabricated to be higher in certain zones to trap heat and offer flexibility, and dialed in around places like the elbow to reduce material and weight,” said Richardson.
We found that the flexibility of this jacket one of the best to date from Nike Golf. When you want something that looks good on and off the course, than this sweater crossover is a must. It is also a reasonable price, considering the functionality, at $120. It is a great option for in-between 40 and 60 degree days. Not too light and not too heavy, just right. One thing we would have liked to see was more color options for the Spring. The grey and black colors are nice, but color is in for the Spring.
The Nike Innovation Woven Cover-up, available now at retail, features a bonded seam down the back, eliminating stitching and added distractions. A traditional collar offers additional protection from chilly temperatures and wind.
Colorways: Medium Base Grey and Light Base Grey
