The Paiutes Golf Resort, Experience Vegas Desert Golfing Just North of the Strip image

         Las Vegas, NV--

The Paiute Golf Resort, just 20 miles north of Las Vegas, offers two beautiful courses sitting in a very quiet valley. The land here is Paiute reservation land, part of 4,000 acres returned to the tribe in 1983. As we made our way north on U.S. route 95 from Las Vegas, we wondered where exactly the green grass was. Don’t worry, it’s hiding off to the right.

The Snow Mountain course was the first one built for the resort in March of 1995, designed by architect Pete Dye. As expected with a Pete Dye course, golfers will find railroad ties set in the bunkers throughout. Also nifty are the tee markers in the shape of desert tortoises, which apparently have a spiritual significance to the Paiute Indians. With some beautiful lakes and Joshua Trees, the Paiute experience is one to remember.

The greens here can be a bit hard, but such is to be expected with a Nevada desert course such as this. Snow Mountain offers pleasantly subtle elevation changes, some narrow fairways and some not so narrow, and plenty of greens with nearby water. We liked the ninth hole, with water along the right side and a beautiful clubhouse perched above the green.

Inside the spacious clubhouse, we found our Paiute hosts to be quite friendly and the food extremely good. The kitchen serves up all kinds of soups, salads, and sandwiches, including a soothing French Onion soup and a scrumptious Tuna Melt. Cigar freaks will enjoy the smokers lounge overlooking the golf course. The facilities here are unmistakably new and the atmosphere very comfortable.

The Paiute resort has already begun work on its expansion, part of its plan to become a complete destination resort. By some time in 2002, the Paiute should have two additional golf courses, a large hotel and freestanding casitas, a casino, restaurants, shops, conference space, and spa. So head on out to the Paiute and see what this popular resort is all about. Call ahead, (702) 658-1400 or (800) 711-2833.

As a 2006 update to this course. They have two additional courses which we will detail in a later review and the casino and hotel is still waiting for approval as of October 2005
