Atlantic City, NJ--
In a town where gambling is the main attraction, our staff wanted to find a great escape golf course to save us from the misery at the tables. What we found was a beach jewel located just a short cab ride from the front door of the massive Borgata Hotel and Casino.
Located across the Brigantine Bridge from the Atlantic City Marina District, Brigantine Golf Links offers an experience much like the original courses of the British Isles. Built in 1927, the 18-hole, par-72 course is a Scottish links-style course with an open layout along the shore of Brigantine.
Once you arrive at Brigantine, the helpful staff will tell you few secrets about the course and send you on the way to enjoy this great course which offers many challenges and a few beaches of their own along the way.
If it wasn't for the Atlantic City skyline in the background, golfers would really feel like they were in Scotland. Even the wind makes you feel like you have been transported out of New Jersey. Be alert though, one small distraction that golfers might have a tough time handling will be the local version of the mosquito the locals refer to as "greenheads." We highly suggest 5 bottles of bug spray each for the dog days of summer.
Voted Atlantic City & South Jersey's Best Value Golf Course -- Publinks Magazine 2005.
True to its historic Scottish roots, this layout offers breathtaking bay views, native marsh and gently rolling, nearly treeless terrain. With prevailing sea breezes and carefully placed concave bunkers, this 18-hole, par 72 course provides an exciting and ever-changing experience for golfers of all skill levels. Golfers will find challenging mounding and water hazards on at least 14 holes. The greens are relatively small... a bump-and-run strategy is often best for keeping scores low.
The built in GPS navigation inside of the cart really helped us accurately choose the best club in some tight situations on the course.
The 17th hole, a 425 yard par 4, is the #1 handicap hole at The Links at Brigantine Beach. A slight dogleg to the left, with a hidden tee shot. Keep in mind, there is water sitting at about 240 yards from the tee. Play your tee shot over the right mound and keep it straight, which will provide you with the best angle into the green. The green is protected by a sand trap on the left, grass bunker on the right and trees long. The key to playing this hole is a well placed straight tee shot. Hit it too far right and you won't be able to reach the green in two. Hit it too long and you likely find some of the Beach's water hazards, a pond. The pond presents interesting choices for the long hitter who must decide to lie up or not, positioning them for a shorter iron into the green. Bunkers on the left and naturalized area to the right, flank the postage stamp green.
We found each of the greens to be in great condition baring some of the drought conditions this course looked better than some other courses we have seen for more money. The $70 for this course and the Scottish experience is well worth the daily fee and the reduced fees for afternoon play certainly make this the best value anywhere in Atlantic City, The Links at Brigantine Beach - a true taste of Scotland at the Jersey Shore!
Once you have finished your round at this challenging course, we highly encourage checking out The All New Links Grille soon to become your favorite eatery in Brigantine Beach. The new chef, Gregory Wallace, has assembled a fine array of menu selections that is sure to impress both members and guests looking for exceptional cuisine at reasonable prices. The New menu was unveiled in April.
The Links Grille is open to the public seven days a week and features a wide array of breakfast favorites, oversized salads, homemade soups, mouth-watering sandwiches, and numerous specials. In addition, the dining room has seating for over one hundred guests and The Links Grille offers a combination of delicious food, casual ambience, scenic views, and attentive service making it the ideal venue for your next special event
The Links Grille not only offers some of the best chili and burgers found anywhere in Atlantic City, but the menu has something for everyone. Not only is the selection great, the service is even better. Our server, Jen, made sure we had prompt service and made some great suggestions for items on the menu that were high in demand by all golfers.
Nessy's Nachos are the best selection on the front side starters menu for appetizers. Loaded with the homemade chili and chicken and steak, these will fill a few hungry golfers with the massive proportions of salsa, guacamole and sour cream piled high on multi colored tortilla chips.
After starting off with a great shot off the tee with the Champions Chili or Nessy's Nachos we suggest trying either the Brigantine Burger topped with grilled onions, roasted peppers, sautéed mushrooms, American cheese, lettuce and tomato served on a kaiser roll. Simply put, great burger, mouth watering.
The Italian Sliced pork is a great selection for those who want to break away from the traditional hot dog or hamburger. The slow cooked Italian Pork is served with Au Jus on a Kaiser roll and is a mouthful with all of the pork on the sandwich.
After you have filled the belly, stop into their fully stocked pro shop and see some of the finest in golf merchandise and equipment. Brigantine has the newest product from the big names such as Ashworth, Cutter & Buck, Footjoy, Nike, and Titleist just to name a few. We found both a great selection for men and women in logoed shirts and hats. All items make a great gift to bring home. Save your money from the slots and take home some merchandise from this great course.
While many golfers and magazines have ranked this as a "must play" course, we highly recommend the next time you visit Atlantic City, add this to the must play courses, you will be glad you did.
