After an embarrassing loss to Syracuse on Monday night, the
Hoyas needed some sort of major rebound and today they got just that with a
controlling victory over Duke from start to finish
For the Hoyas it was a special day as both President Obama
and Vice President Joe Biden were in attendance cheering on the 20,000 fans
that sold out the first game of the season for the Hoyas. It was a special
atmosphere inside of Verizon Center today that probably carried the Hoyas to a
89-77 victory.
"The crowd was pumped up, Obama was there, so it was
exciting," Georgetown guard Chris Wright said. "I think we all came
out with a little bit more energy than usual. We were all over the place,
defensively and offensively."
The difference in today’s game came from the field. The
Hoyas shot a blistering 71 percent and Duke was held to 37 percent from the
field and shot 9 for 29 from behind the arc.
Nolan Smith scored 19 points, Kyle Singler had 18 before
fouling out with 2:10 to play, and Jon Scheyer added 17 for the Blue Devils who
fell to 17-4 on the season.
It was Duke's first road loss against an AP Top 25
nonconference team since 1997 when they lost to UCLA.
"They're really good, and I think we're good,"
Krzyzewski said. "But we weren't good today."
Georgetown is 3-0 against ranked nonconference opponents this
season.
