With their new album,
Healthy in Paranoid Times, Our Lady Peace is coming out of the gates running with what is sure to be hit after hit after hit. The first single off the album, “Where Are You” gives listeners a breath of fresh air with its edgy sound and catchy hooks.
The DualDisc format of the new LP gives listeners a chance to rock out with the CD side of the disc or a chance to view the making of the CD, thoughts behind the songs and a sneak peak into quite possible one of the greatest bands ever to come out of Canada (yes, they are right along side Nickelback).
When you open the CD’s accompanying booklet you find that 1,165 days were needed to record this album and the time was well worth it because it produced Our Lady Peace’s best work since
Clumsy. With the social messages found within each of the songs,
Healthy in Paranoid Times lends itself to becoming a sort of social reform doctrine, much like Green Day’s
American Idiot LP. The guitars on the album are on the absolute cutting edge of music and just might be giving all music lovers a preview to the future of rock and roll. The songwriting proves to be both flawless and fearless. This is the kind of music that we will be talking about thirty years from now.
As with every album, Our Lady Peace does not disappoint and doesn’t hesitate to bring in musical elements from other genres and they aren’t afraid to use less than rockin’ instruments like the organ, yes boys and girls, there’s an organ along with a piano, and who could forget the perfection found in Raine Maida’s voice.
Bottom line: With songs like “Where are you,” “Wipe That Smile Off Your Face,” and “World on a String,”
Healthy in Paranoid Times will be in your CD players for a long time and with the complexity of each piece, you’re guaranteed not to get tired of this album. Don’t download this one, it’s way too good for that, buy it, you’ll be glad you did.
