Bethesda, MD--
Grammy Award winning songstress Natalie Cole hit the Strathmore Stage in Bethesda, Maryland fast and hard, opening her show with a song titled “Criminal” from her new “Leaving” album. This up-tempo remake of Fiona Apple’s song might be one of the best on the new album.
Cole was radiant on stage as she stood before the sold out audience at this beautiful venue befitting the voice of a beautiful and talented artist. Cole’s voice soared throughout the music center with energy and vivaciousness as Queen Natalie Cole held court before her loyal subjects.
Cole commands attention with style and grace with her stunning vocals with a list of classic songs from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Kate Bush, Sting and others. Cole’s performance at the Strathmore celebrates the release of “Leaving.” Cole’s 20th album was recently released September 26th.
The “Leaving” album contains new material that returns Cole to her musical roots in R&B and pop. The hit single “Day Dreaming” is a fabulous rendition of “Aretha’s Franklin 1972 #1 Billboard R&B single smash hit. Cole added her own twist to this hit song with a bit of hip-hop flavor. This danceable number will definitely be heard in all the top clubs, “Day Dreaming” is the first single from the “Leaving” album and marks the release of Natalie’s first urban/pop single in nearly sixteen years. The title song “Leaving” is an emotional and powerful stirring soulful ballad. It is a remake of Grammy award winning artist Shelby Lynne’s song. Cole’s interpretation of Lynne’s song truly was an eloquent compliment to the original.
She continued the show with the Etta James inspired “Lovin Arms” and her mainstay hits “Inseparable, “I’ve Got love On My Mind” and of course the renowned “Unforgettable,” which received a standing ovation from the sold out crowd.
Cole has returned to her musical R&B roots with new and fresh material that gives new meaning to a Queen returning to her throne.
Natalie Cole’s stop here in Bethesda was an incredible send off to a long awaited tour. Her fans old and new will be pleasantly surprised with the “Leaving” album. Like her new album the concert at the beautiful Strathmore Music Center was truly unforgettable.
