Bristow, VA--
There are some things that have just become synonymous with summer in the Washington, D.C area, hot weather and a concert with Poison starring some of their rock friends.
This time is was a good match up of the reunited RATT with lead singer Stephen Pearcy back with the band and Vains of Jenna, a upstart band from Sweeden that took the place of White Lion, who decided not to make the tour.
RATT, who was a lot more rewarding to fans then the tour opener seemed to enjoy having Pearcy back at the helm with guitarist Warren DeMartini and drummer Bobby Blotzer for the first time since 1999. I seem to remember the show they put on at Nissan Pavilion a pretty damn rocking good show then and just hearing these songs, it was still quality RATT.
Pearcy looked as he lacked a bit the luster he did back in 1999, and the RATT shows certainly aren't the bra's flying and strippers in the front row concerts like they used to be... but this is some of the best 80's rock their ever was, so no one seemed to care that stuff was missing and they rocked with the band just as they did back in the days.
RATT played for an hour and played almost all their hits. I was disappointed they didn't do "I Want A Woman," but that wasn't as popular as songs like "Round And Round" or "Lay It Down," which they did play.
Most fans clearly came to see Poison, who released a new album on June 5th, titled POISION' D, which contains 13 digitally recorded tracks from bands such as KISS, The Who and Grand Funk Railroad.
Just as they have done in many of their tours before, Poison opened with "Look What The Cat Dragged In," and along with the Pyro, it seemed to get the fans jump started for what they really came for, an 80's rock invasion. The crowd might have been a bit lower than expected as heavy storms hit the area about an hour before the show, forcing the closing of the lawn completely. While the pavilion area was somewhat full, it might have been a bit more to capacity if there was decent third act on this bill.
Bret Micheals Still Rocks It Out 80's Style With the POISON'D TOUR
Everyone sounded great. Bret Michaels can still hit all the notes with ease and the clean and sober C.C. Deville has never looked or sounded better.
In a concert like this, you know to expect a lot of solos and crowd interaction. C.C. did his solo just a few songs into the set, which may have been a little early and also sang his song "I Hate Every Bone In Your Body." Rikki Rockett fired up the crowd with a drum solo as his kit moved across the stage.
Here is a little of what people can expect to hear on this tour, which runs through September 2nd with their final show in Jacksonville, Florida.
