Las Vegas , NV--
Okay for the second time this year, our staff was in Las Vegas and wanted to find something different that we had not seen or done in sometime... Could it be a concert at the MGM? Probably not. Would it be Pointed throwing another celebrity party? Not this time.... This time our staff wanted to see something different and it was Pamela Anderson that enticed us a bit to review the Hans Klok "Beauty of Magic" Show at the new Planet Hollywood.
It's hard not to see the Aladdin anymore, but I think we could get use to the new look casino.
We have always wondered what an illusionist would do with a celebrity like Pamela Anderson in their show? Was it just a way to get people into the seats, or was it the hopes that Pamela would shake her ass on stage to the delight of fans? Well it was a bit of both...
The cheesy humor from Anderson and Klok was supplemented by a very well put together show. The dance routines that worked around Klok's ventures over his life made for a much more interesting show. But... where was the punch this show should have delivered? Was it in the 12 minutes that Pamela Anderson appears on stage and floating in thin air? Maybe, but Klok had something else up his sleeve we did not see this night.
Anyone that pays to see this show will say it is better than some of the other magic shows in Vegas, but will Klok lead his show to stardom in city that has more magicians than you can shake a wand at? The storyline that follows Klok growing up is easy to follow, but is a bit to narrative for a show of this type. Just do some cool tricks Hans and the people will come and check your show out.
Klok is known as “The David Copperfield of The Netherlands.” He says he began as a magician, but is now an illusionist. (If so, why isn’t the evening called “The Beauty of Illusion?") Whatever he is, his act is confusing — an assortment a lot like a candy bin of basically the same illusion done over and over with slightly different touches.
The newly refurbished theater is one of the best Vegas has to offer. The video screens at the sides of the stage are cleverly set in what look to be mirrors held in a person’s hand, adding to the feeling that magic is all smoke and mirrors. It really is all smoke and mirrors right? Klok will make you think so during his show. The pyrotechnics are a great addition to the show. This is one way to ake sure you stay to see Pamela come out of her plastic box Klok has her inside of.
Hans Klok is a show that one you will want to see at least once to say you did it, but is not one of those shows you would love to go see again if you happen to bring a friend to Las Vegas with you.
Hats off to the 14 dancers that are a part of the show, they were some of the best we have seen in Vegas production in a long time and they make the show all the better to watch.
“Hans Klok -The Beauty of Magic” will add a Wednesday show to the weekly performance schedule. Beginning October 3, shows will play: 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, 7 and 10 p.m. on Thursdays, 8 p.m. on Fridays and 7 and 10 p.m. on Saturdays.
There will be no shows on Saturday, October 13. Instead, two performances will be held on Wednesday, October 10 and Friday, October 12 at 7 and 10 p.m. Klok and Anderson will also conduct one special Tuesday performance on October 30 at 8 p.m.
HANS KLOK, A GOOD SHOW, BUT WHERE IS THE PUNCH WE EXPECTED TO SEE?
