Indianapolis, IN--
While Danica Patrick may have finished 4th in the Indy 500 this weekend, she certainly finished a lot higher in the respect field with her success of leading a lap and coming back to the top after making several mistakes during the course of the race. The question remains, does she have an unfair advantage behind the wheel with her weight? Some tend to think so.
One doubter is Robbie Gordon, who refuses to race in the Indy 500 again until the IRL looks into the issue of her advantage at 100 pounds where some of the other drivers may be as much as 80 to 100 pounds heavier.
"The lighter the car, the faster it goes," Gordon said. "Do the math. Put her in the car at her weight, then put me or Tony Stewart in the car at 200 pounds and our car is at least 100 pounds heavier."
Tony Kanaan has even expressed his interest into looking into the matter and expressed his concern for the matter, but supported her trek to be one of the better drivers in the series.
Many fans have been doubters about the success of women in racing, but one thing we know, she is no Sarah Fisher. Her drive to be a winning racer is much greater and her looks are not just the factor behind putting her in a car.
One thing that Danica has to her credit, is she has the will to win and will accept nothing less than that going into each race and expects to use this race to focus on the remainder of the season despite what other drivers think about whether she should be in this league or not.
Danica's next challenge come at the extremely large Texas Motor Speedway, where speed certainly comes first. This would be a great test to see whether the weight comes into consideration with what it takes to run on a open track like TMS. If Danica performs here, then the doubters will see that she can race and is not just a ratings booster for the IRL to compete with the overwhelming advantage NASCAR has on the league.
Texas has always shown a few great races over the past three years, will this be another one and will Danica take home her first IRL victory or just another solid race finishing in the Top 10? Tune In, many are sure to this week again!
