New York, NY--
Many people believed prior to the start of tonight's game that Syracuse could not shock another team for a third straight night, well Gerry McNamara just again proved the doubters wrong with a 58-57 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas.
For the Hoyas they just could not find a way to stop the Cuse attack in he final minutes of the game when both Eric Devendorf and Gerry McNamara scored the most important five points all night.
McNamara (17 points) helped the Orange erase a 15 point first half lead that the Hoyas built when the Orange started horrible didn't even score their first basket when Josh Wright went 1 for 2 from the free throw line.
Ashanti Cook fueled the first half run for the Hoyas when he hit a three pointer giving the Hoyas a 5-0 lead. Cook struggled in the second half trying to get a open shot and finished with 7 points on a 4 for 11 effort from the field. The Hoyas had a controlling 36-21 at the half and had the game well in control until the final five point swing that the Hoyas could attribute to a break down in defense and a turnover in the hands of Jeff Green.
"We made a few mistakes late in the game and Syracuse capitalized on them in he final minutes. Gerry is an amazing player and a lot of credit should be given to him for another great second half effort," said Hoyas Head Coach John Thompson III.
