Washington, DC--
Just when Gilbert Arenas thought his team had secured a victory in the final seconds of tonight's game against the New Jersey Nets, but Vince Carter had a different idea about where he would land the outcome of this game, overtime.
In overtime the Wizards just could not find any way to make a shot hit the bottom of the net. The Wizards made only 2 of 9 shots in the extra period, turned over the ball twice. They also had a dose of Jason Kidd too much in the extra period.
Vince Carter who has been known to control many games over his career, tonight was just another he added to his resume with 34 points and 7 assists. Jason Kidd who continues to find ways to dish the ball to his teammates finished the game with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 18 assists. This was his 77th triple double of his career.
"It was a very tough game to lose," said Wizards Coach Eddie Jordan. "We fought back and got the lead, but it was a great shot by Carter. The ball went to the back of the rim, stuck there and fell in. The shot took the wind out of us and we weren't able to respond in overtime. We gave up 18 points. We'll take a day off, lick our wounds and get back to work on Tuesday."
Gilbert Arenas again paced the Wizards with 25 points but had a horrible night shooting hitting on only 6 of 23 shots, Antawn Jamison was 3 of 6 from the field en route to finishing with a season-low nine points and eight rebounds and Caron Butler finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds but missed four shots in the final period.
"We just need to find a way to keep going in overtime. We missed several shots and had few key opportunities to make up for our mistakes," said Jordan.
The Nets had a great night shooting overall which included 48.8 percent from the field and 45 percent from long distance. The normal outside shooting of the Wizards stars was limited to 25.9 percent.
