Richmond, VA--
Tonight’s game had just as much hype as any regular season
NBA game, it was supposed to be the return of a healthy Gilbert Arenas against
a hometown NBA favorite in Allen Iverson, well at least one of them was part of
tonight’s sell out at the Siegel Center on the Campus of VCU in Richmond, VA.
Iverson who sustained a groin injury in a scrimmage on
Sunday, just sat calmly on the end of the Grizzlies bench and didn’t even do
that after halftime. He'll have an MRI on Wednesday in Memphis to determine if
it is anything more than day to day.
As for Arenas he helped the Wizards to a strong start with
10 assists and finished the game with just five points in 24 minutes of
action.
During the fourth quarter Arenas
appeared to be in a little pain and had a heating pad on his knee area, but
nothing Wizards Head Coach Flip Saunders said would keep him out of the
line-up.
"He's given me no indication in the things he's done
that he's not back," Saunders said.
Antawn Jamison led Washington with 20 points. Caron Butler
added 15, who finally also showed something from their bench that now includes
Randy Foye and Mike Miller. Foye came into the game for Arenas and helped them
significantly with 14 points in 27 minutes of action.
“I thought we did a good job of
attacking the basket and protecting the paint tonight, for the most part.
We had a little bit of a letdown defensively to end the first quarter, but we
picked it up and got stops when we needed them. We came together at the
right time of the game to win it,” said Caron Butler after the game.
