Washington, DC—
With the return of Antawn Jamison to the line-up tonight for
the Wizards they could only hope that good things could finally happen. A full
offense and a strong bench would be a good match for LeBron and the Cavs. A
good answer was Jamison’s 31 points and Gilbert Arena’s 18 points in what would
be enough firepower to shoot past a Shaq-less Cavaliers, 108-91.
If the Cavs needed any other bad news tonight, they got a
little when LeBron James was trying to take things into his own hands in the
fourth quarter and a dunk literally took things to his own hands as he jammed on
the rim and after the game felt a little pain in the hand.
"I hit it pretty bad on the rim," said James, who
finished with 34 points and nine assists, but also had six turnovers and shot
only 3 of 7 in the fourth quarter. "It's like you hit your funny bone, but
it's not funny at all."
For the Wizards they snapped a 6- game losing streak and
finally defeated the Cavaliers who have owned the Wizards dating back to
2005.
The addition of Jamison made all
of the difference in the line-up
"Whether we miss a couple of shots or make a run, guys
run to the huddle with their heads down, and that's something that I knew that
I could come in and change," said Jamison, who made 12 of 22 shots.
"I've been sitting down for what seems like forever, so I had a lot of
energy. I knew it was going to be different."
Cleveland made one final run in the fourth quarter on the
series of dunks by James, but 10 points with less than 6:00 remaining is as
close as the Cavs would get as the Wizards defense actually showed up in the
final minutes and was able to preserve a much needed win.
