On paper the match-up against 18th ranked Georgetown and unranked Ball State definately favored the Hoyas, but it was more than a two line-ups that people were watching, it was the first ever meeting between brothers, thats right, Thompson brothers.

Both John Thompson III and Ronny Thompson squared off for the first time and it was the Hoyas who took the first game 69-54 of what is sure to be a long time rivalry between the two teams.

The victory for Georgetown's Thompson came as more of an emotional one and even though the teams have agreed to play again next season, he is not sure he can handle it.

"We may cancel that," he said. "This is hard. I knew it would be difficult, and it was much more difficult, to tell you the truth, than I ever thought it would be. That's my brother. I want them to have some success. I want to watch their tapes in a manner in which to help them rather than figure out to beat them."

The Hoyas had a balanced scoring act that kept Ball State at lengths for most of the game and were led by Jeff Green, who had scored 10 points in his last two games combined, had 12 of his 14 in the first half. Freshman DaJuan Summers scored 12 points, and freshman Vernon Macklin chipped in with 10 points.

Both the Hoyas and Ball State had key players missing from their line-up.The Hoyas played again without swingman Tyler Crawford, who has lost 25 pounds during a battle with strep throat and is working to regain his strength and for Ball State, Micah Rollin got sick and had to miss stretches of the game.
