Washington, DC--
Coming into the game tonight against the Bobcats for the second straight night, the Wizards already had to look back at last night and figure how they would correct their mistakes to defeat one of the NBA's worst teams to avoid a second straight loss to the same time, they however did not envision losing a total of three things in two nights... two games and Gilbert Arenas tonight to a knee injury.
Arenas suffered a sprained left knee when Charlotte's Gerald Wallace fell into the side of Arenas's leg after making a reverse lay up. He will have a MRI tomorrow morning to determine the extent of the injury. With 8 games remaining in the regular season the Wizards hope the outcome will only have Arenas missing a couple games or none at all.
Without Caron Butler, the Wizards do not need another starting player to miss any of the final games heading into the playoffs.
The 108-100 loss tonight dropped the Wizards (39-35) a game behind Miami in the Southeast Division and left them in the seventh place in the Eastern Conference. Washington's next game is against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night at Verizon Center.
Antonio Daniels, who started in place of Arenas, finished with 18 points and a career-high 17 assists. Center Etan Thomas added a season-high 19 points with 10 rebounds, and Jamison finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
"Hopefully Gil is hurt -- and not injured," guard Daniels said. "And we can get him back sooner rather than later."
After the game, many of the Wizards players remained optimistic about where his team stands without two of their best players. One of the most optimistic players is one who spent 12 games in the injured list with a knee injury, Antwan Jamison.
"There are a lot of teams in this league who have had superstars injured, and they found a way to get it done," Jamison said. "You just have to turn a negative into a positive and continue to play hard. Pretty much now, it's all mental. Do we continue to believe we can play well as a team?"
