For those looking to see lefty play into the weekend at Congressional, you might have just missed your chance as a lot like the inflated scores that some of the top PGA players experienced yesterday, Phil Mickelson's score today did not allow him to make the cut. much to the surprise of many fellow golfers.

Mickelson who clearly is nursing his wrist injury might have played the worst round viewed by the huge crowd in a number of years. He score 7 at the par-5 16th, where he had to call in a rules official after back-to-back shots: one that landed against a tree and a chain-link fence, and another that landed by a golf cart tire.

"Some of the shots today just did not play into my favor today. I am sorry that fans will not have the chance to see me this weekend. I am very greatful for the chance to play in the AT&T National and I look forward to coming back next year," said Mickelson.

For Tiger Woods fans, who were a plenty today at Congressional, the outlook was a bit brighter that he might have a shot at winning his own tournament after his 4-under round of 66 today.

"I'm back in the tournament," Woods said. "And hopefully I can shoot another round in the 60s tomorrow and move my way up the board."

Tournament play is certainly going to heat up just like the weather tomorrow between leaders K.J Choi and Stuart Appleby, who both finished the day tied a top of the leaderboard at 7 under. Choi had some outstanding moments on the back of the course today including a putt for the ages when a 11-foot birdie putt rolled around the cup and in the hole.

"When I saw it fall in, I was momentarily shocked," Choi said. "But I hope to see more putts like that over the weekend."

Yesterday's leader Jim Furyk, who looked good to start the round today finished tied for 18th.

Perhaps the biggest story of the day was the crowd on hard for the early tee times and the later as well. A huge crowd of 28,000 watced Tiger and his cast of friends hit the course with numbers expected to reach 40,000 by the end of the weekend, it could be the largest tournament the Washington area has seen in some time. The crowds even surprised Tiger.

"I'm shocked, honestly, to see this many people here, especially so early this morning," Woods said. "I wouldn't have gotten up that early to see me play."
