Seaside Heights, NJ --
When the weather sizzles in the East, there is nothing that could compliment the heat than the sand and volleyball and fans got a little of both this weekend on the Jersey Shore as the AVP Tour dominated the Seaside Heights community with a great weekend of volleyball that saw Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs win their second title of the season and Mike Lambert and Stein Metzger taking the mens titles.
Branagh and Youngs entered Sunday’s final undefeated, taking down top-seeds Tyra Turner and Rachel Wacholder 21-19, 10-21, 15-12 en route. Branagh and Youngs defeated Boss and Ross in the final for the second time this season. The duo last met in the final of the AVP Cuervo Gold Crown Miami Open, the inaugural stop of the 2007 AVP Crocs Tour, with Branagh and Youngs taking home their first title of their career.
"We are happy about the success of the weekend," said Youngs. That was one really long tournament, I will tell you that. I am glad we had the fan support behind us. You can tell they really enjoyed us on the court today."
In a morning contender's bracket match with a semifinal berth on the line, Davis and Johnson Jordan took out Barbra Fontana and Dianne DeNecochea, 17-21, 21-12, 15-10 in a three-setter that lasted exactly an hour.
On the mens side there was just as much excitement as Mike Lambert and Stein Metzger defeated top-seeds Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers 23-21, 15-21, 15-13 for their third title of the season.
"Phil and Todd gave us a great match. Coming down to the wire in the third match we were going to have to make a great defensive play or they were going to have to make an error," said Lambert.
