Washington, DC--
In his first apperance at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic this week, Andy Roddick was looking pretty good, but yesterday it might have been the heat that was the talk of the day not Andy Roddick serves as he struggled to get past Radek Stepanek.
Roddick saved three break points in the third set and ended the match with a break of his own to beat Stepanek 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.
"A lot of times when someone else is serving like that, you don't have a lot of choice in the matter," Roddick said. "What I did tonight was just hang around long enough where something good might happen.
Roddick did have to recover from a 3-1 deficit, but said he stayed focus and did not let the serves of Stepanek get to him early.
"Just getting beat 6-1 in a set is probably a lot easier than losing it in a tiebreaker or getting broken in the last game," Roddick said. "At 5-1 down, you almost come to terms with the fact that the set's not looking too good."
John Isner continued his impressive run through his second ATP-level tournament with a 6-7 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2) victory over fellow American Wayne Odesnik. Up next for the 6-foot-9 Isner is second-seeded Tommy Haas of Germany, who advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over No. 16 seed Michael Russell.
