Chicago, IL--
The sun finally came out of the clouds in Chicago and when it did, the fans were on their feet to see Jenny Johnson-Jordan and Anett Davis take the AVP McDonalds Open title in front of another packed house at North Shore Beach.
Triple J and Davis had a fierce battle against Angie Akers and Brooke Hansen in game two, which had some of the best action during the final points of the match, which had to go a couple extra as both would not give up. Akers and Hansen desperately wanted to win the second game forcing a game three, in which they might have had some momentum going into.
"Angie and Brooke are great competitors, they gave us a great match out there today and both of us gave the fans some great volleyball to watch. We love coming to Chicago and have had some great success here, said Johnson-Jordan.
Johnson Jordan and Davis earned 720 Crocs Cup points for their victory. For the five network televised events late in the season – including the Chicago Open – Crocs Cup points have been doubled. The duo is now fourth in the season-long race for the Crocs Cup with 3,132 points
Some of the biggest news of the day came from the tie for third place between Barb Fontana and Alicia Polzin and Jenny Cropp and Jenny Pavley. Pavley and Cropp were the 14th seed coming into the tournament and seemed to take a lot of people by surprise with their finish Sunday.
"We played really well together over the weekend. We did not force a lot of errors and for us to come into Chicago knowing how tough the competition is, it was a great feeling with what we did over the weekend," said Pavley.
