If anyone knows Jimmy Lange, you will know that he is one of the nicest guys that the sport of boxing has ever seen and tonight he exhibited what it means to the boxing world to have him as he hosted a benefit night of boxing at the McLean Hilton featuring four fights and a main event on the card.

The night started with a three course dinner being served and a performance by Emil Stucchio and the Classics, who are best known for popular hits such as "Till Then," "P.S. I Love You" and "You'll Never Know." Judging by the crowd that was on hand for the event, everyone had planned to stay until all of the rounds had finished.

For those who do not know of the story of Corrales or what Lange decided to have an event for his friend, the two division world champion was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident in Las Vegas on May 7, 2007.

During the career of Corrales he won the junior lightweight titles(130 lbs) of the International Boxing Federation and the World Boxin Organization. He also held the titles in the lightweight( 135 lbs) of the W.B.O and the World Boxing Council. He was highly respected by his opponents and it was true loss when the news was broken this past summer.

Corrales is survived by his six children and wife Michelle. A portion of the proceeds from the event tonight will go to his family.

One of the best bouts of the evening came early one when Ron Reaves of Washington D.C (2-0 1KO) took on Charles Norwood ( 2-1 1KO) from Roanoke, VA. Norwood came prepared and delivered some hard punches to take the first victory of the night

Arlington Virginia's Bayan Jargal (Bayanmunkh Bayanjargal) won a four-round unanimous decision over Edward "Nuckie" Anderson of Richmond, Virginia. Jargal remains undefeated at 3-0-1, two KO's while Anderson is now 4-10, three KO's.

In a rematch, Takoma Park, Maryland's Willis "The Prophet" Lockett scored another third-round TKO over Olney, Maryland's Calvin Riley. The time of the knockout was 1:05 of the third. Lockett has now won three in a row and is 10-4-4, four KO's. Riley has lost two straight (both to Lockett) and is 1-2, one KO.

The other fight that came as surprise to many of the fans in attendance was the defeat of another local product Luther "Sugarman" Smith to the hands of Jesse Williams from Youngstown Ohio. Smith was the heavy favorite to win this contest coming into the fight with a 22-5 record and 12KO's. That didn't seem to bother Williams (3-4-1 1KO) as he kept Luther against the ropes and delivered a rash of upper-cuts in the fifth round that left Smith looking for answers in the sixth.

The crowd also seemd to love the three ring card girls that were present tonight. Some of the best we have seen at a boxing event in a long time. After all this was a benefit event and we think Jimmy did a great job making the right choice here.

The host of the night will return the the ring at the Patriot Center on March 8th.
