Indianapolis, IN--
Tonight was supposed to be the start of something good for the Washington Wizards... there starting three were all back in one place... and the Pacers were going to play tonight without both Jermaine O'Neal and Troy Murphy both out with injuries.. so this was a sure victory for the Wizards, well not that fast as the Pacers took it to overtime and that is where the Wizards self destructed in a 119-110 loss.
Wizards Head Coach Eddie Jordan was not that pleased with his team and the mistakes that they made they might have cost them the game including the mix of players that came off the bench.
"It's going to be all about playing those top seven or eight guys," Jordan said. "I want to win games and I feel that we can play at a high level with our top guys and let the young guys develop as the season goes along. But I feel strong about our eight guys and they're going to get the big minutes."
What hurt the Wizards tonight was the long range shooting by the Pacers. Led by Danny Granger and his 4 for 8 effort from long range and the 40.7 percent by the Pacers team.
The Pacers we led by Mike Dunleavy with 25 points and 12 rebounds and Grangers 20 points, but it was the play by Jamaal Tinsley in overtime that helped the Pacers to the first win of the 2007-08 season.
Wizards leader Gilbert Arenas who hit another one of his buzzer beating shots to send the game into overtime finished the game with 34 points and complimented the Pacers on their level of play and intensity tonight.
"All you need to do is just let them go," he said. "They don't look like robots this year. They look like a totally different team."
Wizards Notes:
The Wizards will have their most challenging game of the early 2007-08 season Friday night when they face the revamped Boston Celtics in Boston. This will be the best test of the Wizards chemistry and where this season really is going.
