After the loss last week to UNC, no one really gave the Maryland Terps any hope of possibly winning tonight against a strong Boston College Eagles team who came into Chevy Chase Bank Stadium as the Number 8 team in the country and boy did the Terps pull off the best upset of their season, 42-35, keeping their Bowl Game hopes alive.

As fans filled the field after the clock expired they had the chance to celebrate the first time the Terps have defeated two top ranked teams in one season. Their first upset came earlier this season when they visited the then 10th ranked Rutgers team and took home a convincing victory and tonight the victory over Boston College showed that this Terps team is not willing to pack up the season just yet.

Boston College made the game interesting in the final minutes of the fourth quarter when Quarterback Matt Ryan delivered yet another late touchdown drive pulling the Eagles within striking range.

BC opted for the onside kick on hoping to have one more chance for Ryan to hit the end-zone with less than a minute remaining in the game. The kick did not travel 10 yards and the Terps took over at midfield ending any hope that the Eagles would fly again tonight.

Ryan in the loss for the Eagles finished the game with some impressive numbers with 421 yards and three touchdowns, most certainly keeping him alive in the Heisman voting next month.

Chris Turner had his best game as Terp and since replacing Jordan Steffy with three scores and completing 21 of 27 passes for 337 yards.

Terps Head Coach Ralph Friedgen applauded the effort by his team tonight and has high hopes of getting to the post season in the form of a bowl game.

"It would be an understatement to say that this was a great win for our program and also for our season. I think all the credit needs to go to our players and their perseverance and their attitude. I'm indebted to them. I've had seasons when people with hangnails wouldn't play. These guys are playing with injuries that don't allow them to practice all week. I'm just very proud and very pleased for our kids because when you give so much for so long and you don't reap the rewards, it gets tougher and tougher. These kids never wavered. I knew last night that they were ready to play. They're unselfish and they give and they give and they give, and I'm just very grateful that they do that," said Friedgen.
