Washington, DC--
Within the first minute of tonight's game the Michigan Wolverines knew it was going to be a long night at the hands of the 5th ranked Hoyas, but they certainly did not realize how long of night playing catch-up it really was going to be.
Michigan who is led by former West Virginia Head Coach John Beilein knows his team is young and a bit inexperienced, but that young team really showed tonight and Belein credited the strong play by the Hoyas from start to finish.
"I think it was pretty obvious to anybody that was here, you have two programs at different stages right now," said Beilein, who was hired by Michigan in April. "Georgetown is absolutely terrific. You just sit there and watch them play, and see how beautiful they play. Maybe our team watched them play because they were so efficient in everything they did."
Georgetown who was led not by Roy Hibbert tonight, but another force in the Hoyas line-up, junior gaurt Jesse Sapp. He finished with 12 points and Hibbert who dominted inside of the paint but failed to find the hoop when he needed to also added 12 points on a 6 for 14 effort from the field.
"Roy is the focal point," Georgetown Coach John Thompson III said. "He's going to have to have good games and a good year for us to have a good year. But when any one player is struggling out there, we have guys that can step up. [ellipsis] That's what we want to grow into."
Michigan who never really got anything going in this game was led by Kelvin Grady's 7 for 10 from the field with 16 points. Grady at times looked to be the only player that was able to get anywhere on the tough Hoyas defense. Manny Harris was the only other Wolverine to get into double figures with 14 points on a 5 for 14 effort from the field.
The Hoyas shot 47.0 percent from the floor (31-of-66), and 52.6 percent from three-point land (10-of-19).
Georgetown led, 26-7, with 12:14 remaining in the first half. By halftime, the Hoyas had opened up a 43-19 advantage in which the Wolverines were never able to recover.
