Today was a huge day in Georgetown basketball history as the Hoyas not only took the Big East regular season title, but they did so for the second straight year marking another notch in the history books for the Hoyas as they recorded their first back to back Big East regular season titles in school history with a 55-52 victory over Louisville.

The Hoyas went down to the wire with the Cardinals until DaJuan Summers hit the biggest three pointer of his career on the Hoyas side of the bench to give the Hoyas a 55-52 lead, but leaving the Cardinals one more to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Louisville had not one, but three chances to tie. But unlike Summer's shot, the three pointers weren't falling for the Cardinals. Jerry Smith (0-for-6 from 3-point range) missed with 21 seconds to play. Their second chance came after Georgetown's Jeremiah Rivers missed the front end of a one-and-one. Earl Clark tossed another attempt that was contested.. result.. air ball. Louisville got the rebound, but Edgar Sosa missed their third and final attempt expired.

"These guys have worked hard all season long and today they got their reward. We just have to keep this intensity up going into the Big East Tournament," said Hoyas Head Coach John Thompson III.

The Hoyas had some huge help from Austin Freeman who led the Hoyas with 15 points and it was Freeman that was key in the 10 point lead the Hoyas developed with 15:39 remaining in the second half.

The game marked only the second time the Big East regular-season title was decided in a game between two teams tied for first entering the final day. Pittsburgh beat Syracuse 85-84 in 1988.
