After last week's debacle agains the Virginia Cavaliers where the Terps looked like they had missed the bus to Charlottesville, they certainly proved that they can roll with the best teams, maybe the ranked ones at least as today they blanked Wake, 26-0.

So what was the difference this week? Maryland's offense amassed 470 yards against a strong and veteran defense that ranked among national leaders in several categories. Quarterback Chris Turner completed 28 of 41 passes for 321 yards.

Terps wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, who had not caught a pass in a game since Sept. 20, finally showed up for Saturday's class and had a career-high 11 receptions and a season-high 101 yards.

Bey commented on his performance and how the Terps were able to get on the scoreboard first.

"It's big to get on the board first, which is what we did against California. It puts the other team in the bind to try and make them feel like they have to score right away too, and our defense did a great job holding them down."

"We finally put a full game together. I think by far it's the best we've played all year," coach Ralph Friedgen said after the Terrapins cruised to a 26-0 victory on Saturday.

For the Terps the major difference in today's game is that they were able to get to Wake Quarterback Riley Skinner early and often. He came into today's game as the league's top-ranked passer, went 14-for-30 for 127 yards and was sacked four times.
