Las Vegas , NV--
Many fans left the MGM Grand tonight with a stunned look on their faces, Oscar De La Hoya on the other hand left with a swollen eye and a pounding in an eight round TKO from Manny Pacquiao.
Punch after punch Pacquaio controlled the fight and controlled De La Hoya by the third round and by the fifth round he had a swollen eye that seemed to have him looking for ways just to connect with the faster Paquaio in the end the punched were just too overwhelming and De La Hoya called it quits at the end of the eighth round.
"My heart still wants to fight, that's for sure," De La Hoya said. "But when your physical doesn't respond, what can you do? I have to be smart and make sure I think about my future plans."
De La Hoya absorbed such a beating to the left eye that he was taken to a hospital afterwards for what was described as a precautionary examination.
The once most popular fighter of his generation in De La Hoya won just one round on one ringside scorecard and none on the other two against a smaller opponent who fought bigger than him from the opening bell on. Even the judges looked stunned by the performance by De La Hoya.
"He's just a great fighter," De La Hoya said. "I have nothing bad to say about him. He prepared like a true champion."
