What was Georgetown thinking by scheduling Duke in the middle of their already tough Big East schedule? Well today they found out what it was Duke was no joke and their toughness is exactly what earned them the Number 2 ranking today as the Blue Devils handed the Hoyas a 76-67 victory.
The Hoyas looked as if they were not even going to be able to stay with the Dukies today after they led 27-23 early. Duke found ways to break the Hoyas defense and they also fired up the jets and went on a 17-2 run to go into halftime.
Georgetown trailed by 15 points in the second half before clawing back in the game with a 13-2 run early in the second half, pulling to 46-42 on Da Juan Summers free throw with 15:30 minutes left.
So what was the difference in the second half for Duke that allowed them to pull away, one name Gerald Henderson. He finished with 23 points including 3 for 5 from long range.
Henderson "put them on his shoulders and carried them through the first half," Hoyas Head Coach Thompson said. "He got into the flow. That happens with good players."
Kyle Singler also fueled the second half run by Duke and finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds.
"Kyle is a dynamic player. He does everything that we ask of him and today he showed why he is one of the leaders of this team," said Duke Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski.
