If you were on hand last night at the Patriot Center you had the chance to see some of the best cage matches on the East Coast first hand.. You also had a chance to see what made it celebrity event ,with superstar hockey player and Washington Capital Alex Ovechkin and Redskins fun guy Chris Cooley just a few of the people who helped to make a great night with a bunch of great fights.
Prior to the night the UWC event suffered a big blow to the main event when Chase Beebe failed to show for his weigh-in Friday and was officially taken out of Saturday’s UWC – MAN “O” WAR Bantamweight Championship title bout against Mike “The Hulk” Easton. Beebe has been replaced by H.I.T. (Hughes Intensive Training) Squad’s Justin Robbins for the Main Event’s title fight. The results of the fight were maybe what some fans expected and others not so much.
Easton (6-1) just looked more prepared in his cornered and went right after Robbins for the first two rounds and battered the H.I.T. Squad bantamweight with leg kicks before grounding him in the third. From there, he softened up Robbins with ground-and-pound and waited for an opening, ultimately finishing him with a sick guillotine choke 4:44 into round three.
"I just went at him hard and pounded him late in the round and he just didn't want to go down. I knew it was going to be tough and when my trainers said you have him in that third round it was almost like he gave in after I continued to pound him," said Easton.
“It feels great [to be a champion],” Easton said. “We prepared to go all five rounds. That’s my best submission. I’ve done it 5,000 times [in training].”
One of the best bouts of the night featured the debut of two female fighters in Iman Achal against Felice Herrig. From the looks of Archals face it was all but impossible to see from looks that she would be declared the winner in this fight. Herrig put a beating on her face and kept her against the cage for most of the entire fight. During the scoring process Achal seemed stunned herself as she dropped to the mat with her left eye barely open and took the victory in stride and congratulating Herrig for a strong fight.
" I thought I had her.. I mean I had the stronger kicks and punches in the final round and look at her face, but the scoring says otherwise," said Herrig.
