Las Vegas , NV--
Through the first 50 laps of today's Nationwide Series Sams Town 300 it looked as if they may have a chance to run more than 10 laps at a time under the green flag. After two red flag stops before the 100 lap mark more than 10 cars had either been on pit road for more than three laps on in the garage area for repairs.
Luckily Greg Biffle avoided some of the late collisions, but did not take the checkered flag with out some problems of his own.
Biffle ran out of gas while leading with 54 laps to go, re-claimed the lead after other drivers had their own issues, and then lost his fuel pressure on the final restart. Carl Edwards, his teammate, surged into the lead for a two-lap overtime sprint to the finish, but Biffle was able to regain the gas pressure and snatch the lead back from Edwards. "Man it was a wild day from the beginning," Edwards said. "We had a great race car. There were a lot of wrecks. We had that tire go down and we had a speeding penalty, all sorts of things happened and luck was on our side and we had a chance to race up there for the win."
"It was definitely not short of action," said Biffle.
One driver that was extremely upset with his finish today was Kevin Harvick. He led the race numerous times during the first 100 laps and then was involved in a multi car crash Kyle Busch wrecked while racing Kevin Harvick for the lead. The accident also collected pole-sitter Scott Speed.
Harvick who paced through the garage while his crew tried to bang out the damage, and even headed into the hauler knowing that his afternoon was shot and that it was finishing 29th after starting on the pole.
"It was just a bad series of events, Our car was running flawless today and after that accident the car suffered heavy damage. I have to give it up to my crew, they did all they could to make sure this car did what it needed to and the results after our pole were a bit disappointing," said Harvick.
Jason Leffler, who ran out of gas on the final restart, finished fourth and Dale Earnhardt Jr. was fifth. He was followed by Michael McDowell, Brendan Gaughan and Justin Allgaier. Scott Lagasse and Jeff Burton rounded out the top 10.
