Las Vegas , NV--
After another wild day at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, one of the most unlikely finishes of the afternoon included the trip by Kyle Busch to Victory Lane in a wild series of events that included spin out by Jimmie Johnson on the final lap.
"I tell you what, this is pretty cool," Busch said. "I didn't know exactly what it would mean, but coming to the checkered flag, there were knots in my stomach. It's bigger than winning the Daytona 500. I said it wasn't going to be, but it is."
The biggest story of the day wasMatt Kenseth, trying to become the first driver in NASCAR history to win the first three races of the season, lost his engine six laps into the race and finished last. In all, Roush Fenway Racing lost three of five motors.
When Kenseth went to the garage there was a stretch of akward looks from fans as they had hoped that he might have made history today with his third connsecutive victory, but no such luck with him and several other drivers that included Mark Martin, Joe Nemechek, Max Papis just to name a few drivers who rounded out the bottom of the field.
"It is unfortunate that it had to end this way. We never really had a chance to get things going today. It would have been nice to be part of the record books, but we move on to next week and try again," said Kenseth.
Busch became the first pole sitter to win a Cup race at Las Vegas, although he had to start from the back of the pack after blowing a motor in his Toyota during Friday's practice session.
While some of the other drivers had some misfortune today, Clint Bowyer finished second posting his first top-10 finish in four races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It is his second top-10 finish in 2009.
Boyer who had a shot in the final laps was passed by Busch for the victory and did not seem upset with the results when he was asked about being passed on the final laps.
"He just passed us. He didn't like make some magic move," said Boyer.
