Planning a trip to the beach? Well if you are, we must say if you are a golfer then we will suggest taking the time to check out Heron Ridge Golf Club and find out why this course can put the Fred Couples Signature name on it.
Although this course opened just over a year ago, it has many features that will allow this course to grow and attract golfers for years to come.
The course which features five Par 5 holes will offer some challenge, but the mostly flat course should provide for some easy rolling in the fairways. Most of the fairways are neatly groomed, but in some spots could use some grooming to tighten the fairway a bit.
This is a course that we recommend playing after May 1st, because as we saw in early April, the course was extremely brown and the Bermuda grass did not have a chance to really fully become green. There were several spots on the course that were less than desirable when hitting the ball into the fairway.
We will say that the course will provide a challenge for the intermediate golfer, but the golfer with a 10 handicap or lower should find this course very easy with basically a flat course with wetlands surroundings.
After 18 holes at the Heron Ridge Course our staff found that the course definitely has potential to be one of the better courses in the Virginia Beach area over the next several years. As our staff was leaving the course, we also strongly agreed that the course lacked that one signature hole that we expected from a Fred Couples course. We thought that on the 18th hole with the long straight strech that there could have been something to bring you into the clubhouse with a memory of this course
One of the nicest parts of this course are on the back nine holes, between the 13th and the 15th holes. The lake around the holes and the two Par 4 and a Par 5 holes will offer the best challenge of your game on this course.
After finishing your game, you will find a very new and modern clubhouse which has a fully stocked pro-shop with all your golf needs. If time permits, stop next door to their grill which will definitely fill your stomach after a full day of golf.
