Memphis, TN: It a city that is undergoing some fresh new looks all over town, the Memphis Downtown Marriott has gotten a new look of its own and is ready to show off to travelers why this is the premier place to stay in Memphis.
Fresh off a million dollar make-over, the Memphis Downtown Marriott now boasts the largest amount of rooms anywhere in Memphis at 600 and is now the kind of hotel travelers have been looking for many years in this city of one illustrious hotel, The Peabody. This historic property better watch-out, because your ducks are walking the other way to down the street to the new look and amenities the Marriott has to offer.
When Pointed Magazine first featured the Memphis Downtown Marriott to our readers in 2002, it was just another property at the other end of Main Street. We found it appealing, but still not something that caught the eye of most high-end business travelers coming to Memphis. It now boasts some of the best rooms and amenities that Memphis has to offer.
For those who have waited for a property that meets the needs of all travelers and fits their budget too, we are glad to say it is finally here in the Downtown Marriott.
The first difference guests will notice is the vast amount of new space the hotel has to offer. They always had a huge open lobby when you walked in, but with addition of 200 new rooms, came an entire amount of new space, complete with a few new sitting areas and a café that offers some of the best coffee found anywhere in Memphis.
Inside of the 200 new rooms of the Hotel, you can expect to find that classy Marriott look with a modern twist and a little Southern flavor added.
Our room definitely took the considerations of business travelers and put them to work. The huge glass windows in each room overlooking the government buildings of Downtown Memphis offer a way to sit and surf the internet, have a quick meeting, or unwind after an evening of partying in on Beale Street.
Each room is complete with oversized desks equipped, a pull out computer table, high speed internet access and a full sized chair and ottoman, extending your relaxing options.
One of the best features we experienced from the new rooms at the Downtown Marriott is the king sized beds. Complete with pillow-top mattresses on top of the plush comfortable mattresses a good night's rest is guaranteed with this bed. Travelers will find extra pillows uniformly lined up resting on the headboard to make sure no matter which way you turn your head at night to relax that falling asleep is as easy as booking a room at the hotel.
Each guest will find plenty of new additions in the bathroom as well. Oversized vanities, premium soaps from Neutrogena and cascading showerheads all provide another way to unwind after a day of business or play in the city.
With all of the new features the hotel has to offer, we could not forget about one of the best things this hotel has to offer it's guests, staff friendliness. No matter what time of day you arrive or what you needs are, there is true southern hospitality that shines in each employee. They care whether you return for another night. Some of the other hotels in the with years of Memphis history care more about a museum type tour when you arrive than pleasing their guests.
Lastly, we can’t forget about the hotel’s new parking garage access. Whether you need self parking or valet, their staff once again exceeds the standard level of service found at most valet garages. Each time we parked our car, the car was promptly returned within three minutes of arriving at the valet desk.
For anyone who decides to stay at the Memphis Downtown Marriott, expect a rewarding, fresh and friendly experience that will make you come back time after time. Their rates and service are impeccable and is better than you can find at some hotels in the city that claim to be the best Memphis has to offer.
Another reason to choose the Downtown Marriott other than the $14 million expansion of the hotel, is it's partnering with Memphis' Cook Convention Center. This includes a quick connection to the 35,000 square foot South Hall and the 2100-seat Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. The city is able to accommodate 90 percent of major meetings held in the United States.
“The joint partnership of the Memphis Cook Convention Center and the Memphis Marriott Downtown has allowed for a drastic increase in the capacity of hosting larger conventions, making Memphis the next “hot city” in America,” states General Manager, Erika Alexander. The partnership also includes an exclusive contract for the hotel to cater all convention center events.
