Cleveland, OH--
When you walk down the streets of the Warehouse District in Downtown Cleveland there are many things happening in the hot bed of nightlife and restaurants, but nothing as much as the Blue Point Grille. It is as if they borrowed a little piece of San Francisco, New York and Las Vegas and put it under one roof of this spacious gem.
For any reader that is looking for an award winning dining experience, Blue Point is sure to meet the needs of the most discerning patron who expects the freshest of fresh seafood and finest cuts of meat. Our selections that will be detailed below were some of the best found in our recent reviews.
Once you walk in the restaurant, the vast restaurant has an area for all types of patrons. If you look around there are sure to be some of the power players from the Cleveland area dining all around you. During our visit, many members of the Cavaliers basketball team were dining after a recent playoff victory. According to management, Blue Point is a favorite of LeBron James as well. Your next dinner reservation might just include a seat right next to the King of Cleveland.
One of the best features about the restaurant is there is not a bad seat in the entire restaurant. Whether you are looking for a casual dining experience in their vast bar area or want a nice comfy booth in front of their open kitchen area, a great experience is awaiting you starting with their appetizer menu.
We started with the Seared Tuna, Sushi Grade, which is served fresh with Oregon Wasabi and Seaweed Carrot Slaw. If you are looking for fresh that practically comes stamped on the plate, this is the place for you. The tuna is so fresh, the only other thing we were missing was the boat, but we think we saw that parked out front. The price is also award winning a just $8, a bargain compared to some $12 and $13 prices we have seen in other cities for lesser quality.
Another must have on the appetizer menu is the Lump Crab Cake. One word… “Lump.” It was enough for two of us and one dining could chose this as their dinner if desired. Plenty of crab less fillers is the motto of Blue Point on this one.
If the seven appetizers are not enough to satisfy, the oyster menu will have you wanting more. Whether you like the traditional on the half shell or Oysters Rockafeller served with Smoked Bacon, Spinach and Penrod, these monsters shipped fresh daily from the Blue Point Oyster Company in Long Island New York ensure that each patron will only have nothing but the freshest oysters money can buy.
In between the entrees, we highly recommend trying one of Blue Point Grille's soups or salads. The Roasted Tomato Bisque has the most robust tomato taste we have ever had to sample. Topped with crumbled bleu cheese this is a stomach filler and is just like biting into a ripe fresh beefsteak tomato.
On the lighter side try the Arugula Bleu Salad with Crumbled Maytag Bleu, Pecans and topped with Black Pepper Balsamic Vinaigrette. This is not to miss along with the sliced pears how could anyone resist.
Just when you thought it could not get any better, wait until you try one of their 12 house specialties. The kitchen excels at both creative and straightforward preparations of flown-in-daily fish, which can range from the Nag's Head Grouper to the Pacific King Salmon.
The best selection we could find from the House Specialties was the Singapore Tuna, which is served rare, with Sautéed Asian Greens in a Soy Reduction with Wasabi to bit your taste buds. Three words, “Huge Piece O’ Fish.” This covered almost the entire plate and was almost two inches thick. If you like tuna, this is your place. For $25, it is one of the best values on the menu.
If steak is your choice, their Blackened Blue Strip is one of the best steaks we have tasted in over eight months. The house spice rub and the Maytag Bleu Cheese just make it mouth watering. At $28 its price is more mouth watering with the size of the steak that was put in front of our staff. Add the fresh spicy Szechwan Green Beans or the Lobster Mashers and you have a meal meant for the ‘’King” himself.
While you will be blown away with all of the entrees, the desert definitely takes the cake…. No pun intended, but it does.
When we were presented with the dessert menu we had our eyes on the Banana Split… We were thinking a nice pile of ice cream, chocolate and a huge banana inside the bowl, well were we surprised when Lisa delivered an art piece to our table. We had to ask if it was okay to eat it as we wanted to take it with us to show the other staff members what a real banana split is supposed to look like. The Crème Brule is also an excellent choice if you are looking for something extremely smooth to finish the night.
So the next time you visit Cleveland and you are looking for a place that leaves you saying "WOW," try the Blue Point Grille, you will be glad you did.
