Three things everyone should know about Buffalo New York, the heavy snow, the Late Great R&B Legend Rick James was born in Buffalo, but the best thing about Buffalo is the buffalo wings served up by the thousands at the Anchor Bar. The original owners, Frank and Teressa Bellissimo, created this award winning buffalo chicken wing that left us all with a great tasting buffalo wing. We wanted to beat the daily crowd, so staff arrived at the Anchor Bar on at noon on a lovely Sunday morning.
The Anchor Bar which opens at noon on Sunday, already had a line formed before we arrived awaiting opening of the Anchor Bar. Our theory of the early bird gets the worm did not work this day.
As we entered the Anchor Bar we were suddenly surrounded with pictures of various Jazz Artists that have performed at the Anchor Bar.
Inside, the décor has a dark woody ranch like feel. The walls are heavily decorated with license plates from all over the world. The story behind this as told to us by the Executive Chef, Ivano Tuscan, was that a license plate was found in the Anchor Bar parking lot and it was nailed to the wall just in case the customer came back to claim it. Of course the license plate was never recovered so this started the renowned walls of license plates. To this day customers from everywhere in the country mail in their license plates to have it place as a memento on the Anchor Bar walls.
The Anchor Bar has a very happy staff. It all starts with the man many refer to as Mr. Tuscan, who seems to know the right way to treat his staff. He gives them his utmost respect, but he demands his staff to be the best they can be and treat all the customers with dignity and respect.
It was Tuscan that suggested we not just focus on the wings, but to sample their pasta. Surprisingly they serve more pasta then wings here.
The homemade lasagna was out of this world. The pasta dish was freshly made with layers of pasta with ricotta cheese and beef with a tasty red sauce.
The Anchor Bar has an extensive menu in which offer nine different appetizers, ten different side dishes, various types of salads, along with a children’s menu. If that is not enough, try some of their various house specialties, submarines and sandwiches, seafood, pizza, pasta, and desserts, they also have a very large wine list, to long to list all of the favorites here. Italian cordials are also served. For the beer lovers, the Anchor Bar offers twenty different brands of beer.
The Anchor Bar is also a place to bring the family and make a night of it. Bring that special person in your life, or just dance the night away on one their salsa or jazz nights. The Anchor Bar has so much to offer that even the extremely picky eater will find something to their liking at the Anchor Bar.
Their world famous buffalo chicken wings are served with traditional celery and bleu cheese offered with mild, medium, hot or spicy barbecue sauce. For those of you who really like it hot the Anchor Bar has a suicidal wing sauce. This sauce is not for the faint of heart.
One of our staff members who simply loves hot sauce ordered ten Buffalo wings with the suicidal sauce and was only able to finish off one wing. With teary eyes and nose running from the heat of the sauce, he drowned down two glasses of water and still felt the fire of the sauce.
The Anchor Bar buffalo wings can be shipped to any customer anywhere in the country simply call the Anchor Bar and your wings along with your choice of sauce will be shipped to you frozen so that you can enjoy them at your leisure. You can also order the wings to go steaming hot and freshly cooked or neatly packed and frozen to enjoy whenever you want. The Anchor Bar does not skip a beat on their wings.
