After
yet another reader recommendation, we decided to venture out to the great state
of
Texas, this time to
Dallas to check out the Historic Magnolia
Hotel. What we found is an amazing property that offers a little bit of a
history lesson for guests.
The
Magnolia is located smack dab in the middle of Downtown Dallas. This ancient
edifice is classic art deco in design from the flying wings over the elevator
to the neon Pegasus on the top. The Magnolia was previously the corporate
headquarters building for Mobil and still has a distinct business atmosphere to
its corridors and hallways. Just take one look at the décor of ceiling prior to
getting in the elevator and you will see some of the best parts of the history
of this building.
What
guests will really like is the welcoming feeling the lobby offers. When you
walk through the lobby you will have the chance to see some of the modern
amenities the Magnolia offers. We liked the sitting areas in the lobby
which included some cool furniture like the tall round seating area right in
front of the front desk. A miniature Pegasus is also located in the lobby,
again showcasing the history of the hotel.
One
of the best parts of this hotel is the staff. During our check in process we
were whisked almost magic carpet fast up to our room. The staff knows exactly
how to keep their guests who are eager to relax for the evening extremely
happy. You might even get a bit of a history lesson if you check in later in
the evening.
After
your brief history lesson you will be amazed with what the room has to offer if
you book suite. If you want to stay in the equivalent of a loft on your next
stay then this is your place. Spacious one-bedroom hotel suites
(approximately 900 square feet) off a full-size modern kitchen, separate
bedroom, living room area and adjoining room that can be opened to create a
two-bedroom suite. You will really like the space between the kitchen and the living
area. This is the perfect room for those looking to host a meeting and a place
to entertain as well. It was nice to have some of our staff members over
before a photo shoot and be able to have someone relaxing on the couch and
still have enough distance to not feel crammed next to a bed in a room. A
full sized fridge and sink and countertop areas definitely gives the right at
home feeling.
Some
of the other features of the rooms you will find are wireless high speed
Internet access, executive work desks , in-room Starbucks Coffee, Nintendo
WII and Web TV, iron and ironing board, oversized bathrooms with garden tubs,
electronic key system and vanity mirrors.
If
you like spacious bathrooms, then the suites have all the space you need. Full
size vanity areas and large shower and baths are a huge plus for all who hate
the small cramped rooms where you pay top price, but the bathroom is meant for
one person at a time. The suites at the Magnolia allow for a couple to get
ready to go out on the town or just ready for a big day without feeling like
they are in the way.
As
for the extra amenities the hotel offers, you gotta love that the Magnolia
offers the Club Room. While we like other hotels relaxing afternoon
amenities, this one just goes above and beyond. All guests are entitled to
a FREE hot breakfast, FREE drinks during happy hour from 5:30-6:30, consisting
of beer and wine, and FREE cookies and milk at night. Who doesn't like those
things? Who especially doesn't like them for free? The Club Room is a cool
place to hang out. The library atmosphere is a great way to unwind and
forget about the stress of a long day.
So
whether you are looking for a place to meet for business or just in town for a
special occasion, the Magnolia Hotel offers something special for every
guest. We like the walking distance to Neiman’s, whether you plan on
buying some of the best threads found anywhere or just want to browse the
origin of one of the most famous clothing stores in the country, this hotel
offers convenience when you need it.
The
Magnolia is located near the
DallasConvention Center, West End, Neiman Marcus
and most of
Dallas'
major corporate headquarters.
