Annapolis, MD--
Do you have the urge for seafood or ribs? If you do then we have found a place that is sure to leave you nothing short of a full belly when you leave. Not only do they have some of the best crabs and crab entrees in Annapolis, they also have great ribs for the meat lovers.
For starters, the restaurant sits on the Annapolis waterfront creating a very unique setting for eating crabs or enjoying ribs. It is nice to know the the Chesapeake Bay Blue crabs come from the same bay that connects the South River to the waterfront in Annapolis which sits directly in front of the building that houses Buddy's.
When you walk into the restaurant you will be greeted by the friendly staff. Usually their is no wait or the time is minimal depending on the time of the year, sometimes Annapolis and Buddy's in particular will become busy on the summer weekends. Since Buddy's is family owned, everyone there will take the time to make sure your visit is very personal and done right.
After you have been seated and are ready to try to decide which one of the appetizers, soups or entrees you would like from their extensive menu you will certainly be delighted.
For starters, our staff decided to start with Buddy's new crab and Spinach dip which is overflowing with chunks of crab meat and succulent crab flavor. It is served in a bread bowl and topped with a blend of three cheeses. It is sure to set your taste buds free after several scoops. The dip which is sure to be an item you can't miss is only one of nine different appetizers which include everything from mozzarella sticks to crab cakes and rib shooters.
While waiting for the main course may we suggest taking the time to order one of Buddy's plentiful salads. We tried another new addition to Buddy's menu, the Crab Harvey which contains jumbo lumps of crab tossed with fresh parmesan and basil over mixed greens. Once again since this is new, it may not be for everyone, but as we found it is the perfect match of crab and salad for those wanting to enjoy both.
Now that you have had the opportunity to warm up for some real crabs or what Buddy's refers to as crabmeat heaven be prepared for an ultimate treat when it comes to crab.
The Big Buddy's which are guaranteed to be the best in Maryland by Buddy's are, as far as our staff is concerned, the best crab cakes so far anywhere in the country. Instead of worrying about presentation and fillers for the cakes, they worry about jumbo lump meat. When you see the Big Buddy which is available in 1/4 pound to one pound of solid lump meat you will wonder how long it took someone to pick all of that meat. The one pound Big Buddy which is available for $34.99 is well beyond what you would pay for this rewarding taste of crab.
After we had the chance to digest the enormous amount of crab in the Big Buddy, we decided to look another new addition to the menu the Crab Au Gratin. The Au Gratin which is available for $21.99 will once again give the patron a nice blend of crab and a homemade cheddar cheese sauce.
We must say during the summer not to forget about placing an order for some fat and spicy blue crabs. You can either order them by the dozen or or individually depending on how hungry you may be. If you decided to order the crabs you will be provided with a bucket and plenty of napkins and a cracker for an outright eating experience. For those unfamiliar with crab eating, they can be messy, but worth the work to enjoy the end result.
Since we have taken more of a seafood feature of Buddy's, we want to make sure that patrons do not forget about their famous baby back ribs. They are guaranteed to fall off the bone. The 3/4 pound rack now also can be combined with the 1/4 pound Big Buddy for $21.99, for those who want a bit of both of Buddy's favorites.
Lastly, we must also mention the kids menu and the fact that kids under 10 eat free. There are also various sandwiches and burgers for those looking for a lighter fare. The all- u can eat buffet is also available for lunch from 11am-3pm Monday- Friday. In the evenings, a seafood and raw bar is available from 4pm to 7pm. Then on Sunday take advantage of Buddy's famous Sunday brunch from 8:30am-1:30pm. The Sunday brunch is available for $8.95 and the seafood buffet's are $12.95.
