Washington, DC--
Just when we thought our last Capital Hotels and Suites property, the St. Gregory, was above and beyond what most travelers could expect to find in many of their competitors boutique brand properties, we checked into the Beacon Hotel and Corporate Quarters and the “wow” factor was put into quick effect. If you’re looking for a little close to home comfort or maybe better than home, then by the time you finish reading this review, you will want to reserve your next weekend in D.C sooner rather than later.
The Beacon Hotel and Corporate Quarters reflects the diverse architectural landscape of its surrounding community. Transformed from its original 1950’s style hotel formerly known as the Governor’s House Hotel, the hotel was expanded and recreated in 2004 as the Beacon Hotel.
The Beacon Hotel does not boast a huge lobby like the St. Gregory, but when we walked in under the awning at the front of the hotel, the small lobby is a great reflection as to how they attend to your every need. Each person from the bell staff to the front desk staff is there to help you enjoy a perfect time from the time you enter the hotel until the time you leave.
Once we opened the door to our “Turret” suite we could not believe what we saw. It was a rounded paradise that allows for a panoramic view of the city. If you like windows and the ability to take your own personal tour of the city without leaving your room, then this is the suite for you.
Each suite is complete with a fully equipped kitchen including a granite countertop, full size refrigerator and sink area for those on long term business will have the chance to bring a piece of their home a little closer. A microwave is included for those who plan on having a movie night with popcorn. Pack the lavish wood cabinets with a few extra munchies and your nights away from home will be a lot more like home.
All rooms are equipped to accommodate the serious business traveler, complete with high-speed Internet, Wi-Fi connections, WebTV and enough desk space to spread out and create an effective remote working environment. This suite can fit at least 4 or 5 people comfortably for an afternoon meeting.
If you would like dinner by the fireplace while taking in a movie, then turn your attention to the 42 inch plasma television over the gas fireplace… yes we said fireplace and plasma. This suite has surpassed what someone would expect from most boutique properties and the New York studio flavor is felt in every step in the room. They make it so easy to relax at the Beacon, just sit in their comfortable lounge chair next to the dining room table, prop your feet up on the oversized leather ottoman and you might just fall asleep right in front of the plasma, our staff almost did.
When you move from the living room to the bedroom, the suite continues to impress all the way to the pillow. All you have to do is kick off your shoes, open the shades and turn on another flat screen television mounted to the wall and relaxing is as easy as charging this room to your credit card. The calm colors of tan, brown and white will soothe travelers to sleep with ease. The Beacon also shows you how to get your shine on, with the shoe shine machine placed in front of the bed by the window. Slip your shoes and get ready to look your best in the morning. The Beacon certainly helps getting you a good night’s sleep and getting you off on the right foot too.
The king sized bed sits directly in the middle of the room and the bathroom is directly behind it as not to be in the way. We liked the walk though bathroom that the Beacon has created which doors on both ends and the shower and bathtub. Again the size of the bathroom allows travelers the ability to feel the value of not being cramped for space.
If you are looking for the perfect place to have your next meeting and then you have found the right place. The Beacon Hotel and Corporate Quarters offers 10,000 square feet of flexible conference and banquet facilities, which includes two ballrooms and one that even includes a terrace.
While most hotels will bury their boardrooms in the basement of the hotel so by the time you emerge from your meeting you have little idea what time or what day it is, the Beacon just changed the old boring meeting to the fresh new see the city with their Roof Top Penthouse boardroom. This is perfect area for upscale events. The hospitality suite as the Beacon refers to their roof top gem is perfect d for business functions for up to 100 people. This is a great idea for a spring meeting if you’re a meeting planner, or just plain smart.
For travelers who want a chance to keep up with their new year’s resolutions of hitting the gym, the Beacon offers 24 Hour access to hotels exercise facilities, also featuring complimentary access to one of the cities premier health clubs across the street.
If your looking for the perfect hotel that meets the needs of business and leisure travelers and won’t break the bank in the process of a living the lavish New York Studio lifestyle , look no further than the Beacon Hotel and Suites in Downtown Washington D.C, you will be glad you did.
Be sure to read our review of the Beacon Bar and Grill located in the hotel. The dining experience is just as mezmerizing as the hotel.
