Alexandria, VA--
When Damon’s Grille disappeared from the Kingstowne area of Alexandria, it left neighborhood sports fanatics without a place to gather for a cold beer and decent food.
The absence was short lived, when Lucky’s Sports Theatre and Grill recently opened its doors last month. What Alexandria got in its place was food that you actually wanted to order and plasma screens galore that will have any sports fan calling all of his friends for drinks, sooner, than later.
While our staff has visited and reviewed many restaurants, most of us have never been a huge fan of the sports pub, gaming and food combination offered by these types of places, that was until we tried Lucky’s menu. What you have on this menu is no Dave and Busters and is better than what you might find at ESPN Zone.
What we really liked about Lucky’s is how they separate the bar and the dining area. If you’re looking for a great meal at a great price without worrying about someone spilling their beer on a packed Friday night, they gotcha covered here, they even made sure there are enough plasmas on the wall along with televisions all around the dining area to keep up on the scores and games the same as the crowd in the next room.
We must say that their menu is stacked like the West Virginia backfield and comes with an arsenal of food a strong as the USC Trojans. For starters, the Blackened Ahi Tuna is prepared the same, as you might find in the top seafood and steakhouses nationwide. Served over greens and with Remoulade Sauce it is a great choice for $12.
If your looking for a great starter that going to fill you up quickly and is sure to be gone off the table just as fast as it arrives, try the Hot Spinach, Parmesan and Artichoke Dip. It is worth the $9 and then some.
Where Lucky’s really excels over its competitors is in the salad section of their menu. Forget about 2 or 3 selections, how about 9 different selections, with the Roast Chicken being the choice item from this section of the menu. The roast chicken is fresh, hot and served over mixed greens, fresh corn off the cob, tomato, sun-dried cranberries, dates, pine, nuts, goat cheese and served with a Champagne Vinaigrette. All we could say was WOW! How did you get all of that in one bowl? Add the warm homemade yeast bread rolls to this and you will have just scored two touchdowns by ordering this selection.
Most restaurants of this type you might be lucky to find high quality steak, how about four different cuts of aged beef that melt in your mouth with each bite. The 7oz Filet Mignon at $23 is as good as some of the local steakhouses in the area, if not better for quality and price combined.
Don’t like steak, don’t worry, Lucky’s has some of the largest Pork Chops we have seen in a long time. You can have these Mesquite masterpieces served with BBQ style or with Marasala Sauces, either one will leave you asking them how to make these at home. Another great entrée for $18.
Lucky’s doesn’t forget about the area either when it comes to making a great Crab Cake. These were packed with lump backfin blue crab and would make neighboring Maryland residents very happy.
All of the Mesquite Grilled fish is brought in daily, so the selections change to reflect the freshness of the product they are going to offer you.
You can’t leave without kicking that final extra point to secure these best dinner experience you will have for sometime with their Apple Bread Pudding, serves two, or the Crème Brulee.
So you’re not ready to leave yet? Enjoy eight High Definition Screens measuring 6 feet by 8 feet with an additional fifteen High Definition Plasma Screens measuring an incredible 50 inches each and check out their 3,000 square foot gaming area. This is an adult’s playground for sure. Want to brag to your friends about you Air Hockey skills, Lucky’s has you covered there too. Beer, mixed drinks, their massive bar in the middle of the action has you covered for whatever occasion brings you out for good food and good times.
